A complete package offering English lessons, room/ board and cultural activities.

 

English Lessons

This course covers the four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and is focused on helping students to communicate effectively in spoken and written English. The textbooks, work methodology and supplementary material are innovative and designed to suit the students’ needs and expectations. Classes are given by fully qualified and experienced teachers using the most up-to-date and approved teaching methods.

English Class Hours:
3 Hours per Day / 15 Hours per Week

 

Social and Cultural Activities

Emerald NY includes 3 to 4 afternoon activities after school on weekdays. The students will gather after lunch and travel in groups to several destinations. These include visits to NYC’s most famous attractions: The Empire State Building, Trump Tower, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, Times Square as well as museums such as the Metropolitan, Natural History and MoMa, and can also include unique experiences of cultural interest such as visits to recording studios, business offices and firehouses.

During the afternoons spent on campus, the students get to enjoy the wonderful facilities offered by Wagner College for any of several sports activities (baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming). All these activities will be organized and directed by the Emerald Staff.

During the evenings spent on campus, Emerald will offer different presentations or concerts, of a variety of sorts, for example: live Jazz and Blues concerts, presentations on New York City History, on TV Commercials, or even other kinds of events such as sing-alongs, American movie showings, or even a night to dance.
Weekends are spent on day trips discovering more of NYC in its five Boroughs.

Optional extended 1-day trips to places outside of the city such as: Philadelphia, Upstate New York (Hudson River), or the Woodbury Commons Outlet are available for an additional cost.

 

Housing and Meals

The students will spend their nights at Wagner College inside the dorms. There are several dorm buildings around campus and the students will be assigned to a double room. These rooms are very simply furnished, with 2 beds, a desk, chairs, a dresser and shared bathrooms. Dorms are supervised overnight by Emerald employees as well as Wagner security.

Wagner College has a wonderful cafeteria, a beautiful, ample and luminous building serving food way above American standards. The all-you- can-eat buffet offers: pasta/rice, main courses, sides;"trattoria": pizzas and special pastas, vegetables, extensive choice of fresh fruit, assorted desserts from pie to ice cream, and unlimited drinks: soda, juice, water, coffee etc.

 

Enrollment Age

The Emerald NY Junior Summer Program is open to students from 13 to 18 years old.
